Things I ate, drank and loved in October
I don’t know about you, but I miss summer when I see the sun’s intensity change and feel a chill in the evening air – winter is coming and with it, the colder and darker days offers us the opportunity to welcome more indoor hygge into our lives.
Quiet Joys
I’m an introvert, so starting my day slowly and in solitude is essential.
I usually begin my mornings with coffee (after downing a cup of warm water), but I started drinking tea on the weekends. I had the pleasure of starting my day (and ending some nights) with Plūkt Peppermint Tea - a herbal loose-leaf tea hand-picked in wild Nordic meadows and forests, then dried naturally by the sun and the wind (if this isn’t hygge, I don’t know what is!). The flavors are crisp and fresh, rich but not overpowering. I could feel a difference when I drank this tea over my regular cup of coffee – I definitely felt calmer. On lazy days, I didn't want to bring out the tea infuser, so I drank with a filter straw. Although it’s traditionally used with Yerba Mate, it was great for sipping peppermint tea. I especially love the gold color, it feels very fall and fancy.
Magic Moments
“Note to self: Doing nothing is sort of fun. Let’s do it again sometime.”
Sometimes you just have to remove yourself and leave everything behind. Go to the mountains, breathe cold fresh air, sleep under the stars, and indulge in the utter joy of a quiet mind. I don’t think many of us have the luxury to drop whatever we’re doing, but we should look for creative ways to “step away” to bring stillness and calm into our lives. When we do, we experience “magic moments.”
So unplug and channel some inner peace. My magic moments from the Quiet Joy Hygge Box looked something like this-
When I was missing nature and the outdoors, I burned a Moss & Oak Soy Candle. It made me feel like I was hiking in the forest.
After all that “hiking,” I wanted a snack so I reached for the Chocolatier’s Milk Chocolate Popping Candy. It satisfies any sweets craving. Have you ever had “Pop Rocks” candy? Imagine that in milk chocolate (*crackle*)
Not many people know this about me, but I love to ride my Peloton bike (if you do too, let’s be friends, my username is “hyggemeister”). The instructors are amazing (#BooCrew, #TeamLovewell, #Robinswolfpack) and great at making me work up a sweat. Some classes can be hard on the joints, which is why I was so happy to come across Blasta Henriet’s Linen Wheat Bag. It is a hot and cold pack made from 100% natural (Cotswold) wheat grain. This wheat grain naturally contains moisture that retains heat and cools with insulation properties and evenly distributes heat and cold, giving you effective pain relief and comfort. It works really well at soothing aches and pains in the shoulders, neck, and lower back. Who could resist this cozy companion, always there to give you a warm feeling of security. I think we’re going to be best friends.
Believe it or not, life is only going to get busier, and it’s up to you to find time to recharge. Have you had one of those days when you’re so busy that you don't take time to go to the bathroom (don’t hold it, go to the bathroom)? I had one of those days recently and it was rough. I didn’t want to go to bed feeling anxious, so I squeezed in 20 minutes at night to decompress. I put on some slow, relaxing music, closed my eyes, and put on a self-warming steam eye mask. In as little as 60 seconds, the soothing jasmine scent began to melt away the stress.
The Quiet Joy Hygge Box reminded me that disconnecting is self-preservation, it’s joy creation. So go and schedule a hygge weekend for quiet joy in your calendar right now, complete with a steaming eye mask and cup of peppermint tea. You deserve it.
